4 Steps To Letting Go and Building A Profitable Business
By Golda Smith

It was the winter of 2001 and I was in love. It started like most other relationships…you want to spend all your time with this person, you have great conversation, can’t keep your hands off of each other and then yada yada, you can’t stand each other. This was after living together for six, and two children; and although we had reached the end of our journey as a couple my ego wasn’t ready to let go. I was putting myself through unnecessary pain all because I wasn’t ready to let go.

Can you relate? Have you ever been in a situation that you knew was totally unhealthy, that you needed to let go of but for whatever reason you just couldn’t do it? I’m not only talking about personal relationships because I’ve seen people do this in business relationships as well! Have you ever started a job or business, given it your all yet you find that it just isn’t all that you thought it would be YET because you’ve spent years in school or learning this craft you feel that you should just stick it out? In this article I want to share with you four steps that you can take to let go…if you’re ready.

Keep your intention in front of you
The first step is to recognize your intention. Let me rephrase that, not only recognize your intention but more importantly…keep your intention in front of you. Why do I say this? Because your plan should be to keep your focus but at the same time remember that the focus can’t and should be to keep your plan. By keeping your intention in front of you, you can quickly remind yourself why you are doing what you’re doing and realize that the current vehicle may not be the one that will get you to where you want to go. Be mature enough to change your plans if and when necessary.

Figure out what do you need to get rid of?
If you’ve been consistently been about the business of building your business for at least twelve months then you should have some idea of what is working and what isn’t working. Look at your calendar and your daily action steps. Examine your marketing. If you aren’t seeing the desired results then perhaps it’s time to examine what you have been doing and you may find that you need to revamp. Figure out what you need to let go of and what things you need to do more of. Often times the problem with most entrepreneurs is they give up just before their break through and other times, they just keep spending time, energy and money in activities that will take them further down the rabbit hole.

Affirm the positive
This is in my humble opinion the biggest block to achieving success and it has to do with the negative self talk that have with ourselves. I know that I have been guilty of this, how about you. Have you caught yourself saying something like “this is to hard”, “network marketing! this type of business never works for someone like me”, “I’m not smart enough”, or any other negative and untrue statement. This may take some time but you will have to replace the negative statements with something affirmative. What do you believe you are worthy of? What every the answer is, is what you need to start saying to yourself repeatedly. I want you to look in a mirror right now and say “I am worthy of receiving all that GOD has for me” or “I don’t feel guilty when I have money”. Create your affirmations and if you want to kick it up a notch then turn that affirmation into an incantation. Use the power of your voice to bring those words to life. Whenever the resistance says you can’t you tell it to shut up because you are worthy of all the greatness that life has to offer.

Be willing to let go
After everything is said and done, you have to be at least willing to let it go. Whatever it is that you are holding on to that is no longer serving you must be let go if you are to move forward. I have a magnet on my fridge that reads “sometimes letting go make you lighter for better flying”. Often times we hinder or own progress because we are unwilling to change, to let go. Having the willingness says that you are open to change and sometimes that is enough. The act of just being open means that when an opportunity presents itself you can not only recognize it but can also receive it and sometimes that ‘s enough to totally change a situation from bleak to fabulous and profitable.

So let’s recap the four steps to letting go:
  • Keep your intention in front of you
  • Figure out what you need to let go of
  • Affirm the positive
  • Be willing to let go

If a successful home based business is what you desire, I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can have it but you must be willing to do the work and be wise enough to know when it’s time to let go and renew.

Hi Paul-
Intentions are very important. They will guide you in all you do. Until next time…

Hi Golda,
Thanks for your article which I found to be a very gentle reminder to me of why I started my home based business in Zamzuu to create that residual income so that I could get to not only impact lives (Really!!) but also create that residual stream of income that is available in this industry. But I found that the 3 foot rule was distracting and I's now OPEN to exploring other ways to build my business and have FUN doing it. Keep the great articles coming

Glad to help with the gentle reminders. With all the distractions out there it can be easy to lose sight of WHY we are doing what we’re doing. Until next time…

Hi Golda,
I really like this.  Keep intentions instead of goals in front of you. This keeps the goal from getting so ingrained that it can't be changed.  I will write this down and remind myself every day.
Thanks!

Hi Golda,
You truly are an inspiration!  Sometimes you read things on a certain day for a certain reason…I don't question the why, I just appreciate the fact that your words have resonated with me today.  I admire your strength and I thank you for reminding me of my intentions.
