About Golda

Hi! I'm Golda Smith, Home Based Business CEO, Editor-in-Chief of Obvious Magazine, and busy mom. Yes, this Mompreneur wears many hats! I'm a first generation American, my mom is from Guyana and my dad is from Barbados. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and after high school I headed south to the chocolate city, aka Atlanta, GA. While there I earned two degrees that I am doing absolutely NOTHING with. Can anyone relate? A B.S. in Chemistry from Clark Atlanta University and a Master's in Public Health from Emory University.

My mother, also a single parent, pushed my siblings and I to get an education and I was the first out of the four to graduate college, big deal! After graduation I really had no direction but I knew that I wanted to travel to Italy, model, start a business, find and marry me an Italian man and have lots of babies…things didn't quite work out way. I did model and I did start a business. However, after the birth of my daughter I left the last full time job I would ever have and started a personal chef business. I loved it, my specialty was Caribbean vegetarian, but found it very time consuming especially after my son was born.

Speaking of kids, allow me to introduce you to mine…

That beautiful girl with the dazzling smile is Zuri, as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and the handsome little boy is Mykai aka Mini Me. I affectionately call them my chocolate drops because they give the best hugs and kisses. Now that lady with them means the world to me. She's Mama Sarahn and she is my midwife! For all of you English sticklers, I know that I used the present tense, and I meant to do that. She helped me bring my babies into the world and I love her dearly. I delivered both of these babies in the comfort of my home, in a birthing tub, surrounded by people that who loved me and whom I loved, it was absolutely perfect! If you never had an at home water birth…all I can say is it was the most vulnerable I think I've ever been…and I'd do it all over again!

What else should you know?

I LOVE sushi, pizza, wine and lip gloss, though not necessarily in that order. I stay in shape with belly dancing and running. I once completed a half marathon in 2 hours and 1 minute :). I take my health seriously but not so much that I can't enjoy a great desert! And…in case you were wondering…my name means Enlightened One.

Oh my, I went off on a bunny trail…Back to what I was saying

My next business was in the area of network marketing. Like most other network marketers, I exhausted my warm market, bought leads, scoured craigslist, cold called. I was calling myself a network marketer but I felt like a complete fraud!

I didn't know what I was doing and I had no idea how to MARKET myself and neither did the people who was supposed to be leading me. In addition to that, I got sick of having to find a baby sitter so that I could go to the Thursday night business meetings that I didn't want to go to anyway. Good help really is hard to find especially when that help is to take care of your children. So I just threw my hands up.

There had to be a better way…

I'm a single parent and I wanted a business that I could build online. Well that lead me to…the computer, surprise! Anyway I started learning about attraction marketing and blogging. I got so excited because the pieces were finally coming together. Wow, everyday I was getting closer to were I was supposed to be. I met an entire new community of fellow bloggers, internet marketers and Mompreneurs that I didn't know existed. I was having FUN and LOVING it!

I met women like Dani Johnson, Sandi Krakowski, Heather Armstrong, Heather Stephens and Corina Beckby to name a few.  If you can't tell, I get excited when I see other Mompreneurs CRUSHIN IT! I've learned so much from each of these fabulous women. Today I'm having more fun than I ever have and love being present for every moment of Zuri and Mykai's fabulous adventures.

It is my passion to work with other single mom's who need some guidance and inspiration in changing their financial situation to living the lives that they dream of, it is not only possible but it is your birthright! Do you have an idea for a business and have a small budget? Great, let's work together to get it online. I look forward to working with you.

Hi Angie,

Welcome to my blog, great to have you here. Congratulations on your new business, that’s awesome! I will say that people want to join people that they have a relationship with. So my advice to you is to promote you. Identify your market and find out what THEY want, then give it to them. Become the “go-to” person for their needs in your niche. Do you have a blog? How is your online presence? Entirely to much to type right now but if you have any other questions then feel free to ask. Until next time….

Your life story is extremely amazing and your success as a single mother is awesome I admire that..
I am a single mother, my greatest desire is to be able to spend more time with my only son and travel to places we"ve never been as well as leaving a legacy for him to enjoy.
I seek coaching and mentoring from those who have succeeded at what I am trying to accomplish a better life for me and my son .
