A BIG Mistake You May Be Making on Social Media and How To Fix It
By Golda Smith
Don’t you get frustrated when you go to a website, love what you see there and want so desperately to get in contact with the company and you can’t find that information ANYWHERE? You look for their social media buttons and…nothing! It’s like going on a scavenger hunt. You click on every link thinking that perhaps you missed it somehow but to no avail, it’s just not there.
Or, you find a really great Facebook page and you want to see what else this person is up to, where else can you find them. You click on their about section and…NOTHING. They have no email address, no link to a website or blog, no Twitter account. They may very well have one BUT if it’s not visible then it’s as if it doesn’t exist and therein lays the problem.
People today are busy, very busy and they don’t have time to try to find you. Sadly, many business owners don’t put too much thought into their online visibility and it’s hurting their businesses. I know this for a fact because I’ve tried to connect with many of them and maybe some of you reading this article today.
Each day I dedicate a few minutes to connecting with new people on social media. I may first start on Twitter or Facebook, sometimes Linkedin and I’ll want to see what how they communicate with their audience. The problem I’ve found is they aren’t any links to other social media platforms. Take a few minutes today to make sure that you aren’t making this mistake. If you don’t have time to do it yourself then outsource it to your assistant but please do it today. You may be leaving money on the table because people can’t connect with you the way THEY choose to.
If you have a Twitter account, and if you don’t we need to talk, make sure that you have a clickable link to your website or blog in your bio. Do it today! Moving on the Facebook…make sure you have a clickable link that takes people from your personal timeline to your Facebook Like page. Do it today! I can’t tell you how many people are making that mistake. It’s so small but at the same time so huge because once again, I don’t have time to find you.
If you’re on Linkedin, remember to add your website, Facebook and Twitter information. The bio or about section of your Pinterest and Instagram accounts should also have your website url.
Next, take a look at your website or blog. Better yet, have someone else take a look at your site and let them tell you how easily (or not) they were able to find your social media buttons. If you’ve done a good job then they should be easy to spot on the first page of your site and they should be above the fold. I’ve been on way to many sites where the buttons are on the very bottom of the page OR they’ve been buried on other pages. BIG mistake!
The thing I hope you understand…NO…blueprint in your mind is that you need to weave all of this together. Every one of your social media platforms should be linked together so that someone could easily move from one to the other. Once you do that you’ll find that it’s easier for people to connect with you and you with them. There you have it, are you making this social media mistake? Inquiring minds want to know.
