Social media manager (SMM) isn’t just the latest buzz term. Last time I checked…5 seconds ago, there were more than 92 million google searches for that term. Social media manager is a very in demand job and chances are you may have spent some time trying to determine if you want or need to hire one.
 
“What exactly is a social media manager and what’s in it for me?” Great question…glad you asked.
 
Simply put, this is someone that manages the social media accounts of an individual or organization. When properly executed, a SMM can help you strategize to find ways to increase your reach, increase the amount of people you connect with and therefore increase your results. Now that sounds like a plan to me!
 
Time to turbo-charge your social media efforts. Do you have any idea how to create engagement on your facebook page? What about twitter…does it seem like mindless chit chat? These a very powerful tools of connection that you can strategically use to increase your profits.
 
Tasks for your Social Media Manager
 
There are a number of ways to get a great return on your investment but first you have to be very clear on what your goals are. A competent SMM will be able to ask you the right questions to flush out what your needs are and help you structure a plan of action.
 
Do you need assistance with growing your following? What about engagement? Perhaps what you really need is someone to handle all the client care issues that pop up from time to time and if you are constantly answering the same questions, then perhaps it’s someone to assist with creating a standard list of procedures. This is just scratching the surface!
 
I hope that you can see the range of tasks that your SMM can handle. So back to the original question…does your business need a SMM? I have no idea. You could try to do it all on your own; however, why would you want to do that? You have your strengths and your weaknesses.
You must figure out what you want your life to look like. Do you wish to spend countless hours going staring at the screen trying to write status updates or would you prefer to spend time playing dress-up with your baby girl?
 
Social media can be a huge investment of your time so make sure that you’re using it wisely. If your SMM can take care of the time consuming tasks, allowing you to focus on the things that you not only love doing but also brings in the bucks, then it only makes sense to have one on your team.
 
After personally managing social media accounts for myself and my clients I can tell you that it takes planning, patience and total love for the task. If you have more work than time, don’t even think about outsourcing your social media needs…do it.
