How To Succeed Online Regardless of Your Business
By Golda Smith
What I LOVE about being an entrepreneur in 2012 is that my office is literally where ever I have an internet connection. Seriously, as long as I have my cellphone and laptop, I can work, serve clients and read those beautiful emails that let me know a purchase has been made. Now, every day I meet would be entrepreneurs that wonder how THEY can be successful running an online business. As if it’s something attainable only to a few special people. The beautiful thing about running an online business is that YOU get to design it so that it works for you. There are at least 3 things you have to do in order to succeed online and they are create, connect and communicate.
Let’s talk a little bit more about these. You must…let me repeat you MUST create a website/blog that clearly defines your market and what it is you’re marketing. You may find it hard to believe but there are some people who desperately want to have a profitable online business but outside of social media they don’t have a website. Having your own website is imperative because it’s marking your own territory…something you own and control. So no free sites, ok?
On the other hand, there are those who know they need a site but they are so busy gather information that they NEVER take action and implement what they are learning. If that is you, stop it. From now on, promise yourself that you will learn and implement. My site has been a work in progress and the truth is that it will always change and so will yours. The best way to get unstuck is to take action.
The next step to online success is to create connections and there are so many places to do so. You’ve got your website/blog, social media, newsletter, videos, and audio to name a few. How many connections have you made? I say this all the time but it’s so worth repeating. You have to be where your market is regardless of whether you like it or not. Do you kind of like Facebook and totally hate Twitter? Doesn’t matter, create your accounts and start connecting. It’s not about you! Your job is to show up and spread your message on the platform that your market wants to connect with you on.
Oh my goodness, I think this third step may be the most difficult step for many people. Communication! Again, I see the comments and questions almost daily…”What do I say to people on social media”. Have you ever said this, “What if they don’t like what have to say?” or “Do I have to talk to them all day?” This is so easy that even an introvert can do it! Don’t let the fact that you are online and not face to face keep you from being authentic. If you can remember that you are talking to real people, with real feelings and real opinions then it shouldn’t be difficult. Trust yourself and more importantly be yourself. That’s the best way to connect with people.
Create a system that will allow you to be consistent with your efforts, especially if it doesn’t come easy for you. Building an online business is fun but it is work. It takes time to create and to connect and to communicate but when done the right way you will be on your way to living an authentic life, building a profitable business and having the life of your dreams. If I can assist you in any way please let me know because my passion is to help others succeed in reaching their goals. Now go for it because I believe in YOU!
