Pinterest Puts Your Social Media Marketing on Steroids
By Golda Smith
Okay…have you seen the new player on the social media playground? I’m talking about Pinterest. If you have an account then you probably will agree when I say that it is addictive. People are attracted to it like they were to facebook when it initially came out.
Warning: Before you log into your account, put on your timer…15 minutes TOPS then get outta there…Seriously!
For those out of the loop, pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows users to “pin” photos of things they find interesting. I hope you notice the main word here is INTEREST. This social media tool is all about what interests you, what interests the people you want to connect with and nothing is off limits.
People have been using social media to connect with and to market their products and services to people for some time now and are stooped at how pinterest fits into their marketing plan. Check this out…Dr. Peggy Malone added 700 new people to her Facebook Like Page in 3 days simply be sharing a graphic!
This is where you want to be if you’re marketing anything and I do mean anything. So how do you generate interest? Simply by being yourself. Create boards that represent you and not just business. Be social. This demands that you learn to read your clients minds and you do this be paying attention to what they are pinning.
For example, you can see some of my boards. I made one called pretty drinks…because I love a great looking cocktail and a board called words I love. You’ll also notice that I have a board called email and newsletter tips. When you click on the images on that board, you’ll find a short description of the images along with a clickable link back to…my blog. Remember, ALL roads lead back to your blog.
Here's where it gets really exciting. When you find something you like, you can pin it which is similar to the retweet button. You can share other people pins AND you can see what other people are pinning. That will give you a big clue as to what their interests are. Talk about market research…and for FREE!
Here’s something to keep in mind and it’s very important. You want to create a consistent image across all your social media. The bio that you create on pinterest should be similar to the one you have on facebook, twitter, linked in, etc…the same thing goes for the photo you use. Make sure that you use your image and not a company logo. People bond with people not logos, so this isn’t the time to get brand new.
Don’t underestimate the power of pinterest in driving your business. People are building lists, making sales, gaining new followers and building relationships, all from images. You can connect through facebook, shocking I know.
So by now you’re probably thinking that you gotta get on pinterest. Well here’s the thing, apparently it’s very exclusive because you need an invitation so to bypass all of that just go ahead and contact me with a message and you’ll be pinning in no time. Make sure that you add the pinterest button to your blog as well as the pin it plugin, which will allow you to pin directly from your blog.
NOTE: This is NOT a replacement for whatever you are already doing on your other social media platforms. This is just another cherry on top of your sundae, enjoy it.
In case you missed it, here’s my pinterest page, come on over and pin with me.

Tanisha, Pinterest is very cool. Like everything else, there is a learning curve and once you get the hang of it you’ll be a pro.
