Time Management Tools for the Busy Entrepreneur That May Help You Be More Productive
By Golda Smith
As a mother and a business owner, there are a lot of demands on my time. Meals to prepare. Laundry to wash and dry and unfortunately the clothes can’t put themselves away. Then there are parent teacher conferences and I just had the pleasure of assisting in not one but two science projects. Let’s not forget the freelance work I do with my clients…managing websites and social media platforms, writing auto responders and such. I’m one busy momma.
I’ve searched high and low for tools that would give me a leg up on my life and time management. Control time or it will control you. I found lots of tools to help with my quest for time domination. I want to share a few with you today.
I first heard of Chrometa a few weeks ago and decided to take it for a test drive. Chrometa is an automatic time tracking software. What I like about it is that you only need to download the program and that’s all. It runs silently in the background and tracks your time on every site you visit. When I stepped away from my laptop for lunch…once I came back and touched the keyboard a pop up box asked how I wanted to log my time away.
After a week, you can upgrade to the paid version. The only problem is that I wasn’t motivated to learn all the intricacies of the program…no time!
I also found paymo.biz, another time tracking program that also allow me to create client invoices, time sheets, projects and detailed task lists. This also has a free version but you’re limited to three invoices a month. I tested this for a month and decided to keep it. It’s detailed enough yet very simple to use.
Then there’s Teux Deux, an app for those of us who love to make lists. I’m live by my list. Here’s the problem though, once I downloaded the app, I barely used it. I find it much easier to pick up a pen and put it to paper.
We live in a world where it seems that everything is going a million miles a minute. Technology is supposed to make things simpler, more efficient. Sadly, more people are stressed and to busy being busy doing more another piece of research in an attempt to find more time.
My weeks of playing around with apps and software have lead me to this fabulous conclusion. I don’t need all the gadgets. I have a system that works for me. I write my lists on paper and cross things off as they get done. I have yearly, monthly and daily calendars, where I write everything down. I also place those items in my google calendar because I can set it to send me text and email reminders AND google is free!
I also use evernote, another free program, to capture any and everything from voice messages to writing articles, ideas for articles, client projects, you name it.
Have you discovered what works for you? Or are you tricking yourself into thinking that you’re busy when you’re really not making any progress? We can tend to do that. There are literally tons of tools that can help you with your quest for accurate time tracking, billing clients, creating killer to do lists and whatever else; however, at the end of the day my clients want to be accurately billed…and they are, and I want a system that I can easily follow…and I have that. So all is well that ends well.
Let’s recap. As a busy entrepreneur, you and or your assistant can use some these tools to be more productive and build a more profitable business:
- Teux Deux
- Google calendar
