Tell Your Time Who’s The BOSS: A System for Taking Control of Your Schedule & Time (Part I)

By Golda Smith
Just image if every day from now on when you wake up you’ll discover that your bank account received a deposit of $86,400. The only catch is that you have to spend it THAT day and you couldn’t save any of it. What would you buy? A house, nice clothes, a fabulous vacation…oh, the possibilities. The best part is you know tomorrow you’ll wake up to find another $86,400 deposit.
Here’s the beautiful thing, you already wake up to find 86400 seconds in your entire day! What YOU do with it is up to you.
It’s 2012 and next to fitness you’ve probably vowed to get your life and time management under control. No more flying by the seat of your pants and living life by default…at least that’s what you’ve told yourself…for the hundredth time.
I just purchased my yearly calendar and I’ve already got it mapped out and color coded, that works for ME. It might not be for you and being successful in your life and time management has nothing to do with the kind of planner you have.
Here’s what you need to ask yourself,What do I want my life to look like?”
Don’t underestimate this step. Is it important that you wake up feeling like you want to glide out of bed? Is it important to sit and have breakfast and or dinner as a family? Is there a charity that you must give to on a monthly basis? How many hours do you want to volunteer at your children’s school during the academic year? Ask and answer those questions and you’re on your way.
The plans that are most successful are the ones that are in accord with your governing values and long range goals. That’s a HUGE hint, I hope you caught it. Don’t try to follow someone else’s life; you’re only setting yourself up for major frustration.
“Sounds great Golda but exactly HOW do you do this?”
Stayed tuned tomorrow for the rest of this article. You DON’T want to miss this!

My personal preferences come on top of official preferences. Always. I learned how to manage both (by not sacrificing either) after a long tussle. There were times when I just did not have any time for my personal life at all. But I wanted to change it consciously and I have changed it now. Thanks for reminding us to give the right importance to our personal priorities.

Hi Raj! Absolutely…if it doesn’t fit with your values, you’ll always be in conflict with your inner self.

Great post, Golda! I couldn't agree with you more about the need for focusing on your values and priorities to build your plan. After all, we shouldn't just be looking for more activities, but an end goal with where to take our activities.

Hey Golda- love this concept! You are right, time management is one of my big goals for this year. I love the idea of having a plan and remembering how much time we are given each day! I'll have to to check out Part 2 here in a bit. Thanks!
Heather =)

Hey Heather-
I think most people would agree that time management is something they want to get a better grasp of because it’s one thing we all have the same amount of. I love that domain name, very easy to remember…which is always a good thing! I hope that you enjoy part 2.
