Tips to Getting More Subscribers on Your Email List

Your email list is the lifeblood of your business. Let me just start by saying that we all start somewhere. You may be discouraged because the only ones on your list are family and friends. Ali Brown, the ezine Queen started with a list of 10 and she said one of those 10 was her cat…so cheer up!
When I say your list, I’m referring to those people who have given you permission to contact them either via email or snail mail, if you market offline as well. The three or four thousand “friends” you’re connected to on the various social media platforms don’t count. Not that they’re not important but you don’t own that list. Facebook changes like the direction of the wind. Do you really want to bet your business that your “friends” will be accessible tomorrow?
So you know that you need to build a list and have probably made some mistakes along the way. Convincing someone to share their email with you is no longer as simple as asking them to join your newsletter. That’s so 1990!
In today’s fast passed world you’d better offer something extra compelling. Something that solves an urgent pressing problem and keeps your readers up at night. When you’re just starting to build you list, you will want to tap into your social media connections. Post your offer several times during the week and encourage your readers to tweet and like it.
Speaking of social media, if you have a facebook like page then create a welcome tab, make it the default landing page and place your web form there. Now every time a new visitor comes to your page the first thing they see is an invitation to receive your opt in offer.
In addition to posting several times weekly, you should also consider having multiple opt in offers. Test them out to see which ones convert better and make them easy to find. No one has time to go on a scavenger hunt to find your free offers. If you’re using aweber, which I highly recommend, place your web form on the right hand side, most people expect to find it there. You can also place it in the top navigation bar of your site. In addition, you can use one of my favorite plugin’s, popup domination, a premium wordpress plugin that can increase your opt in’s by 200%-300% if not more.
You MUST have a call to action. If people don’t know what to do or if you give them to many choices, then they will likely do nothing. In every message give clear instruction on what you want people to do.

These are all great call to actions.
Finally…well not finally but for the sake of this article, protect your list! There are many internet vultures and pimps who would love nothing more than to dig their fangs, suck the life out of and push their products onto your subscribers. That’s the fastest way to destroy your credibility and trust. If you remember all of these suggestions then you will be well on your way to building a list of interested, eager and loyal subscribers.
