Where Is Your Vision Taking You?
By Golda Smith
Have you ever gone for a drive to nowhere in particular? You’re just driving, taking the road to see where it leads. Sometimes you are pleasantly surprised and other times you wish you would have stayed home.
This is the time of year when we sit back and reflect on the goals we set back in January as we think about the goals we want to accomplish in the New Year. How about you? Did you accomplish much of what you wanted to this year? If so, congratulations! However, if you’re like most of the population, you probably didn’t.
One reason why you probably didn’t accomplish your goals is because you lacked vision. You see, vision is what keeps you going when you feel like giving up. That’s why someone could be doing really well on their diet but walk past a donut shop and suddenly realizes that they’ve already eaten two. Or, give it 100% at the gym and give up the next day because their muscles are sore.
The same applies to business. What’s your vision for your business? Too often, it’s so easy to get discouraged and give up on one’s dream. You’re spending money on Facebook PPC, your ads aren’t converting like you think they should and you give up, thinking it won’t work for you! It’s worked for everyone else but somehow, you’re convinced it won’t work for YOU and you just give up and move on to the next shiny object hoping that it will work.
That’s lack of vision!
Write this down…
Vision is what makes the pain of whatever you’re going through bearable. So how do you take that really lovely vision and make it a reality?
Develop your personalized M.A.P.
To reach your future goals you need to have your M.A.P. or massive action plan. It’s great to have a big picture goal. For example, one of your goals may be to increase your income by 20% of what you earned last year. That’s a great goal but how will you do that? What are the smaller specific steps that you’ll do in order to increase your income?
That’s where you work backwards and take your big goals and break them down into the smaller steps that are necessary to get you to your vision. In this case, to increase your income by 20% one of the steps would be to consistently market yourself. Every month you should be implementing a marketing campaign, one that is strategic and measurable. That marketing campaign should generate x number of new leads which would result in x new of new clients.
Tighten Your Circle
Sounds so simple, sadly, too many people insist on doing it alone…making their journey longer and harder than it need be. There’s a saying that says “you’ll be like the 5 people you hang around most”. Take a look around, do you want to be like the people your spending most of your time with? You may need to get a coach or get into a mastermind group. It may also require you to release the reigns and finally hire an assistant. Stop doing the smaller tasks and focus on the money making activities! Most of my clients have never worked with an assistant before working with me and confess that although they really needed the help they were afraid really nervous about getting it. Funny thing is that after a few weeks, they wonder what on earth took them so long. They were more productive and found that they were moving closer to their vision. Hmmm, interesting don’t you think?!
The amazing thing that I hope you realize is that you can do this for any area of your life. Business, fitness, family, spiritual…ANY area! You can also start whenever you choose. I had to say that for all of those people who have preprogrammed themselves to hit the reset button on January 1st (that’s code for New Year’s resolution).
With a new year, there comes anticipation for something bigger and better. What is your vision and where will it take you?
